When your body is nourished by ripe, seasonal produce, your brain can focus on getting your job done well. Making the most of NH Eats Local month is easy. Gather your co-workers and staff for an office challenge to “Live Free and Eat Local.” This fun initiative is challenging residents to eat at or from five different local farms or food businesses!

There are tons of fabulous ways to engage in the local, fresh food scene. For starters, check out the NH Eats Local website and learn how all across the Granite State, residents of the 603 are sharing recipes, events and joining in the Live Free and Eat Local Challenge.

Here are a few ideas to whet your appetite:

Tour Local Farms

For a chance to check out local farm favorites, the Monadnock Farm and Community Coalition and the Monadnock Food Co-op have organized the Monadnock Farm Tour on Saturday, August 20th from 12-5pm. Visit 10 prolific food producers and experience the roles they play in keeping the Monadnock Region vibrant.

In addition, stop by the Monadnock Local Harvest Event at the Co-op on August 19th. Catch musicians Lenny Solomon and Becca Myari, savor local ice cream from Walpole Creamery, and explore an educational exhibit by Wildlife Encounters Ecology and Wellness Center complete with live animals. It’s going to be wild!

Eat, Drink and Support a Great Cause

Get your tickets for a mouthwatering event, the 7th Annual Taste of Monadnock and Beyond Food & Wine Festival. The proceeds benefit Shelter From the Storm, a transitional shelter for the homeless. Save the date for beer, food and wine tastings, cooking demos, a pig roast, live music from Sheepdip, a raffle and silent auction all at the beautiful Woodbound Inn in Rindge, NH on August 14th.

Connect with Your Food

Get to know what’s happening with the local food scene through Food Connects. This farm network helps communities thrive on sustainably grown food. From farm to school, to farmer’s markets, to consulting services, they work to transform our local food system from the ground up. Connect with them August 27th from 11:30am-1pm at the Monadnock Food Co-op.

All August Long

You can also celebrate NH Eats Local all month long at Orchard Hill’s Pizza Night Fundraisers, NH Eats Local Month Bingo with the Monadnock Food Co-op, Co-op Food Store’s cooking classes, and the North Country Local’s Recipe Round-up

As you can see, getting involved in the Monadnock Region’s thriving local food network is easy as pie! Make NH Eats Local a company event—set up office goals for how many farms or food businesses you can support. Take a company outing to a local farm for a tour and some team building.
