The Keene Senior Center is well-known in the Monadnock Region for its role in providing our older adult population with a place to go for social events, fitness, crafts, games, meals, group trips, and volunteering. Founded in 1957, the organization has been housed in a historic building since 1962 – adapted for its current use. They also own and operate a thrift shop in a small building on the property. Their mission?
The Center shall act as a community focal point for persons aged fifty (50) or over so they may come together as individuals or in groups, for recreation, events and activities which enhance dignity, support independence and encourage involvement in and with the community.
The team at Masiello Employment Services recognizes the importance of this organization in our community and has chosen the Keene Senior Center as our volunteer/community service partner. We are happy to be working with them on some of the center’s needs. As a non-profit with a holistic mission, the Senior Center has limited resources for building improvements, and as we all know – older buildings take a great deal of time and effort to keep fresh!
Our first volunteer project at the Keene Senior Center was to paint the exterior of their thrift shop, and our next project will be to assist them in painting the much-used craft room located in the basement. The members will be choosing a bright and cheery color to spruce up the area; then our team will roll up our sleeves and provide the materials and labor to transform the space to make a positive impact on the members’ experience.
We stand by our belief that it takes a village to make a community, and even though our labor and time is just a small slice of the hard work the center team provides, we hope it helps to relieve their burden in some small way.
