team building ideas in Greenfield Massachusetts

Don’t get us wrong, we love a good social mixer (especially if pizza is involved) but the same old team activities can get a little stale. Fortunately, there are plenty of fun team building ideas out there, especially if you happen to work near Greenfield, Massachusetts!

Greenfield is a thriving city with its beautiful natural landmarks and of course, college campuses, nearby. Whether you’re headed off to one of the city’s fantastic local parks or skipping across the river to Shelburne Falls to go bowling, the Greenfield area offers a range of fun team building ideas.

We’ve got four awesome ideas we hope will get the creative juices flowing! With any luck, it will be just what you need to engage your team in a fun team building event.

Scavenger Hunt at Highland Park

Team scavenger huntAn oldie but a goodie, scavenger hunts are a blast and a great way to give your team time together outside the office. For this idea, we recommend taking things literally outside—to Highland Park. Located in the heart of Greenfield and bordering the Connecticut River, Highland Park and the nearby Poet’s Seat Tower are fantastic places to set up a scavenger hunt. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to hide clues, plus you have the advantage of getting your team some fresh air.

Scavenger hunts tap into the sense of friendly competition we felt even as kids. And they engage everyone in critical and strategic thinking, all wrapped up in a puzzle. Consider a theme for your scavenger hunt; careful planning is what really makes these fun for the adult crowd.

You want it to be challenging and to require teamwork with rewards centered around creativity and collaboration versus straight up speed. For instance, maybe participants need to snap photos or create a short video in response to one of the scavenger hunt clues. You may even be able to design opportunities for one pair or mini-team to connect with another to complete a task.

As you plan, test the tasks yourself to be sure there’s enough momentum in the game. And don’t underestimate the motivation of a tacky trophy for the workplace winners.

Hit the Pins at Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley

bowlingJust a 20-minute drive west along Route 2 brings you to the charming village of Shelburne Falls. Made famous by its iconic Bridge of Flowers, Shelburne Falls is the kind of small, New England hill town many don’t believe actually exist anymore. The fact that it has an old school, candlepin bowling alley adds to the magic.

The Shelburne Falls Bowling Alley is one of the oldest bowling alleys in the country, dating back to 1906! The best time for your team to take advantage of the lounge, bar, and lanes would probably be Friday, when the alley is open from 6 pm to 11 pm.

The alley books parties, so you can have the lanes reserved well in advance of the actual event. The fun-loving competition bowling brings will allow your team to let loose and enjoy a good Friday out with co-workers. Split them up into teams and spark a friendly, inter-office rivalry. Who knows, you may even inadvertently set up a bowling league.

Practice Your Swing at the 19th Hole Driving Range

golfingAny golfers on your team? Why not take everyone out for a fun afternoon at 19th Hole Driving Range? Originally Sammy K’s Golf, the location on Bernardston Street in Greenfield was recently purchased and reopened as a driving range. It’s open 7 days a week, and it’s a great place for an after-work mixer. Even those who don’t play golf will have fun trying out their skills.
