healthy office

Did you know it can be super easy to create sustainable, healthy practices that you can bring to work every day? At Masiello Employment Services, it’s always our goal to encourage practices that create a healthy office where our team loves to work. But health is about more than just exercise and eating, right? It’s also about creating environments where people feel safe, valued, and heard.  You can read more about that in our blog on Mental Health Leadership

Today, however, we’re focused on healthy initiatives that keep the workplace green and you feeling great. We’ve created a list of a few simple ways to help protect the environment, promote everyone’s wellness, and create healthy lifestyles.

Pack a Lunch Full of Fresh Fruits and Veggies from Your CSA

salad at workBeing part of your local up for a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) gets you access to delicious locally grown fruits, vegetables, and meats that can really elevate your plate. By joining, you’re fostering a healthy lifestyle, as well as economically supporting the local farmers who work tirelessly to provide healthy food to their communities.

By using the produce you secure from a CSA, you’re helping to create a more sustainable local economy. The food on your plate hasn’t been shipped from halfway across the world but instead comes from halfway across town. Plus, if the farm in question uses organic growing methods, you’re supporting healthier land. And, of course, there’s the nutritional benefit of organically grown, local food. You really can’t beat it in terms of flavor and healthful qualities.

(For our part, we’ve started a Super Salad Club. One of our team members brings in a special salad of their choice and shares it with the rest of the team. We alternate every week and get to enjoy each other’s culinary creativity in a fun, healthy way!)

Bike to Work

bike to workIf the weather is decent and you don’t live far from your office, why not enjoy a nice bike ride to get to work? Biking to work starts and ends your work day with exercise. Picture the fresh air blowing past your face and potentially some great views you might not have seen before. Start your day on a great note! It will get your blood flowing and get you ready to dive into action, helping you to be the most productive, healthy version of yourself.

In addition to exercise, biking is a fantastic way to help the environment and save money. Reduce your gas usage and your carbon footprint, making your commute much cheaper and more sustainable. Biking can also be a great activity to do with others. Gather a group of bike-riding co-workers and cycle to and from work together. It’s a great way to promote a healthy office culture!

Walk to Lunch

walk to lunchInstead of ordering take-out or driving to pick up your meal, why not enjoy the beautiful New England scenery and walk to get your lunch? You’ll save money on delivery fees and gas while using your feet to get where you want to go. Stroll around and check out all of the local restaurants that you could very easily have missed if you had your food delivered.

Walking to lunch is also a great way to develop a healthy office. Invite your co-workers along for a stroll to your favorite lunch spot. You’ll get some extra steps in and have a chance to chat outside of the office. If there are any new faces at work, invite them along to build new connections. It’s an eco-friendly and people-friendly routine many of you will love.

Usually bring a brown-bag lunch? That’s great, too! Take advantage of your break time to fit in a 10 or 15-minute stroll after your meal. Small time commitment with big benefits! You’ll come back to work feeling refreshed and ready to go.

Bring a Reusable Water Bottle to Work

reusable water bottleOne of the easiest ways individuals can take part in reducing waste is getting rid of the cheap plastic water bottles that end up in a landfill. One simple way is to encourage everyone in your office to bring a reusable water bottle.

A reusable water bottle protects the environment by preventing litter and waste on a local scale. Additionally, reusable water bottles can save money and be a lot of fun! Get your office to bring their own reusable water bottles and create a healthy office event where everyone decorates theirs. Better yet, invest in some branded reusable water bottles and share them with the wider community!

Creating a healthy office and workplace is simple, but it takes a lot of little, intentional changes to make a big impact. Here at Masiello, our focus is local. We service the Monadnock Region of New Hampshire, Greater Greenfield in Massachusetts, and the Brattleboro Area in Vermont.  You would be hard-pressed to find an office in our area that does not value employee health and environmental sustainability.

If that is something that matters to you, too, reach out to us. Let’s talk about how we might be able to collaborate. We’re available to chat on the phone at 603 358 1000 or in-person at our offices in Keene. We look forward to hearing your vision for your growing business!
