You may not have a gym membership or own a treadmill or feel ready to take a jog around the block. But, you are probably more than ready for a healthy stroll in the park.  Walking is a great way to get started on the road to a healthier lifestyle, it is low impact and the benefits are endless.  Challenge yourself to park in the back of the lot at the grocery store or at work, walk to the corner store instead of taking your car, take a stroll around the neighbor at sunrise or sunset.  You will feel great I promise and your heart will thank you too!

Sitting is dangerous? I better stand up for this…

As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, there is one thing nearly all modern Americans have in common: we sit all the time. Though our great shift towards computer-based work has done great things for productivity, it has, unfortunately, done terrible things for our health. From increased risk of heart disease and obesity in the long term, to sharply hampered cholesterol maintenance in the short term, the negative health effects of sitting are starting to weigh heavily against the benefits. Even the medical field is plagued by this new health issue. Though doctors and nurses get plenty of walking time, it usually falls to the secretaries, billers, and coders to do all the sitting. And, as we can see, something has to change.

OSHA Standards Material handling is the movement, storage, and control of goods and products. It can be achieved either by manual or mechanical means. Manual material handling (MMH) relies on force and effort supplied by the human body. It is most common in industrial settings, such as manufacturing or warehousing, but can be found in most any industry. Manual material handling is associated with performing lifting, lowering, pushing, pulling, and carrying tasks. The 2009 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index of the top 10 causes of disabling injuries in 2007 (estimated at $52 billion) shows that overexertion represents nearly 13% of all injuries and 24% of all workers compensation costs for the WC insurance industry. Low back pain is a common complaint from performing these activities, but upper extremity disorders such as shoulder pain are common as well. READ MORE »

Masiello Employment Services, Inc. announced today that they have now been awarded Workers’ Compensation Risk Certification (WRC).

The WRC program recognizes staffing companies that practice best in class risk management to reduce workplace injuries and related costs. WRC certified companies maintain that a focus on safety and risk management protects their employees while offering a higher level of service to clients.WRC Certification

“Masiello Employment Services, Inc. is a family owned staffing business”, said Jason Chagnon, company President.  “Our staffing professionals are dedicated to providing opportunities in safe work environments.  Our primary objective is to fill positions for reputable companies and organizations whose employment practices are safe, healthy and fair.  We are confident that the WRC certification will only further our success in this regard.”

Masiello Employment is the only staffing company in New Hampshire that currently holds this designation.  They are 1 of 4 companies in Massachusetts with the certification.  Additionally, they are the only staffing company servicing the Brattleboro, VT area with the certification.

To be awarded certification, companies undergo a thorough review of their operational practices as they apply to hiring and screening, substance abuse, talent matching, employee orientation, client safety evaluations and partnerships, incident investigations and corrective measures, and return-to-work programs. The results are compared against a system of best practices developed by an advisory council of insurance carriers, insurance brokers, and staffing industry risk managers.

Information about WRC certification is published on the program’s Web site at staffingWRCs.com.

Masiello Employment Introduces Employee Newsletter

Masiello Employment is committed to creating and maintaining a positive work environment, not only for our internal employees, but for our employees in the field as well.  After all, it is our field employees that keep Masiello Employment working.  In 2010 our Staffing Consultants have made it their goal to encourage everyone we work with to focus on teamwork, positive reinforcement, workplace safety, and work-life balance.

In our first of many steps to achieve these goals, we have created an employee newsletter titled “Results At Work”.  This will be a monthly newsletter for our employees and friends.  The newsletter will be passed out to employees with their paycheck once a month and will also be available online as a PDF.

In the first issue, dated January 2010, the newsletter covers Masiello Employment’s Mission, Vision and Values Statement, it answers the question, “How does Temp-To-Hire Work?” and it highlights our January 2010 Employees of the Month in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.

We are all very excited about 2010 and what lies ahead for our employees and candidates.  Please download a copy of our newsletter here.

If you have any questions about the employee newsletter, please contact Becky Chagnon at bchagnon@masemp.com.
