Masiello Employment Services, Inc. announced today that they have now been awarded Workers’ Compensation Risk Certification (WRC).

The WRC program recognizes staffing companies that practice best in class risk management to reduce workplace injuries and related costs. WRC certified companies maintain that a focus on safety and risk management protects their employees while offering a higher level of service to clients.WRC Certification

“Masiello Employment Services, Inc. is a family owned staffing business”, said Jason Chagnon, company President.  “Our staffing professionals are dedicated to providing opportunities in safe work environments.  Our primary objective is to fill positions for reputable companies and organizations whose employment practices are safe, healthy and fair.  We are confident that the WRC certification will only further our success in this regard.”

Masiello Employment is the only staffing company in New Hampshire that currently holds this designation.  They are 1 of 4 companies in Massachusetts with the certification.  Additionally, they are the only staffing company servicing the Brattleboro, VT area with the certification.

To be awarded certification, companies undergo a thorough review of their operational practices as they apply to hiring and screening, substance abuse, talent matching, employee orientation, client safety evaluations and partnerships, incident investigations and corrective measures, and return-to-work programs. The results are compared against a system of best practices developed by an advisory council of insurance carriers, insurance brokers, and staffing industry risk managers.

Information about WRC certification is published on the program’s Web site at staffingWRCs.com.

Two New Tax Benefits Aid Employers Who Hire and Retain Unemployed Workers

As posted on IRS.gov:

WASHINGTON — Two new tax benefits are now available to employers hiring workers who were previously unemployed or only working part time. These provisions are part of the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment (HIRE) Act enacted into law today.

Employers who hire unemployed workers this year (after Feb. 3, 2010 and before Jan. 1, 2011) may qualify for a 6.2-percent payroll tax incentive, in effect exempting them from their share of Social Security taxes on wages paid to these workers after March 18, 2010. This reduced tax withholding will have no effect on the employee’s future Social Security benefits, and employers would still need to withhold the employee’s 6.2-percent share of Social Security taxes, as well as income taxes. The employer and employee’s shares of Medicare taxes would also still apply to these wages. READ MORE »

Engaged Employees Are More Productive

Hopefully by now we all get it: this economy is challenging, things are changing, and everyone is looking for ways to do more with less. Unfortunately, as many companies struggle to adjust to this new reality, opportunities are being missed. Often we are so focused on stretching an organization’s financial and other resources that we become less effective in managing our human resources.

Why do you think that is? A lot of the time, it’s just a matter of focusing on the tangible rather than the intangible. If you can improve a machine’s output by 10 percent, that’s obviously a good thing. But improving an employee’s productivity…that’s much more difficult to turn into a percentage (or a dollar figure). The following is from an email I sent to our team here at Masiello Employment.

Good Morning,

I was reading an article this morning with the above title in the September Staffing Industry Review magazine and by the time I was finished, I felt encouraged and realized I had highlighted most of the article.  I would now like to share some of my thoughts with you.  Some of these ideas are those you have heard, so this serves to re-emphasize; other ideas are new to all of us, which hopefully serves to motivate.

Understand Your Clients’ Issues

Darlene Minatel, VP of national sales for Manpower, says “If you don’t understand what your clients’ business issues are, then you won’t succeed.”  Plain, simple, true.  So how do we do this?  Start by asking them, and by using probing questions:  What is your biggest problem with staffing right now?  What’s your biggest expense today?  What is your staffing strategy?
