You may not have a gym membership or own a treadmill or feel ready to take a jog around the block. But, you are probably more than ready for a healthy stroll in the park.  Walking is a great way to get started on the road to a healthier lifestyle, it is low impact and the benefits are endless.  Challenge yourself to park in the back of the lot at the grocery store or at work, walk to the corner store instead of taking your car, take a stroll around the neighbor at sunrise or sunset.  You will feel great I promise and your heart will thank you too!

Let’s focus on CLEAN EATING  – this is a fairly simple concept.  I like to think about this in terms of the grocery store lay out.  To eat clean you can do 99% of your grocery shopping in the parameter areas of the grocery store; produce area, fish/meat department and the dairy section.  Basically it is CLEAN if it is GROWN or GRAZES. Keep this in mind as you do your shopping this week and plan your meals.  I have included 5 Simple Steps to Clean Eating below. READ MORE »

Sitting is dangerous? I better stand up for this…

As we enter the second decade of the 21st century, there is one thing nearly all modern Americans have in common: we sit all the time. Though our great shift towards computer-based work has done great things for productivity, it has, unfortunately, done terrible things for our health. From increased risk of heart disease and obesity in the long term, to sharply hampered cholesterol maintenance in the short term, the negative health effects of sitting are starting to weigh heavily against the benefits. Even the medical field is plagued by this new health issue. Though doctors and nurses get plenty of walking time, it usually falls to the secretaries, billers, and coders to do all the sitting. And, as we can see, something has to change.
